On Tuesday March 16, the library will be closed until sometime in the afternoon while shelving is being moved. Coffee Break will be held in the meeting rooms.
On Wednesday, March 17, the library will delay opening until mid-morning to allow for the delivery and staging of new shelving. The library will remain open during shelving installation but much of the Youth Services Department will be inaccessible.
This marks the end of the construction project! We thank you for your patience these past two months.

hard hatUnder Construction
The library is undergoing some remodeling, funded with savings from construction of the building in 1997, to create more space for children’s materials and a quiet reading room for adults.

For safety reasons, the library may need to be closed briefly with little warning. Please watch the library’s website for closing information and construction updates.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!

Academy of Irish Music
Sunday, March 14 at 2 pm

Of Shamrocks and Shillelaghs

Celebrate St. Patty’s Day at the Library.  Join us for a fun and festive performance by students from the Academy of Irish Music.  The Academy is a new chapter in a long and proud history of Irish traditional music in the Chicago area that began in the late 1800s with the magnificent work of Captain Francis ONeill, Chicago's Chief of Police. O'Neill, an Irish immigrant and flute player, spent 60 years in Chicago collecting and publishing over 4000 Irish  tunes, still known, in Irish traditional music circles around the world, as simply The Book.   The Academy students come from all around the Metropolitan area and play a variety of Irish music from old harp pieces and song tunes, to clan marches, reels, and jigs on flute, whistle, bodhran, fiddle, viola and cello.  Led by founder and dean, Noel Rice,  who has been teaching and performing for over 30 years, they have performed locally, nationally and internationally, and have also given performances to many American and Irish dignitaries including 2 Presidents of Ireland, Ambassadors, Governors and others.  Everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s, so don’t forget to wear your green!

  • Winter Concert Series
  • Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Seating will be limited.
